Social justice, supporting vulnerable people and reducing fuel poverty are core values of many community energy organisations. In this session, we explored examples of where community energy is already achieving those ambitions, as well as what policy, regulatory, financial or other blockers need to be addressed to unlock this on a wider scale.
We heard from Regen’s just transitions lead, Fraser Stewart, on the current thinking from policy and academia spaces, followed by an open discussion on what we think community energy already does to support energy justice, and what else needs to be done to unlock the full potential on offer.
Regen works with the Scottish Government to understand how they can support community energy as part of a just transition to net zero. This event, along with other stakeholder engagement and a citizen’s jury, informs our findings and recommendations to Scottish Government.
