Regen has strong GIS capability that, together with our industry and planning knowledge and analytical expertise, enables us to undertake renewable energy resource assessments. We can combine resource assessments with our baseline data about current renewable energy installations gained through our Progress Report work; this enables us to support local areas and communities to set targets, identify potential sites for developments, and write planning policies.
Our resource assessment capability also underpins our scenario work for distribution network operators – click here for more information.
Totnes and Dartington Neighbourhood Planning support (2016)
Through our Esmée Fairbairn funded Community Energy Accelerator, Regen supported Totnes and Dartington on including energy within their Neighbourhood Plan. As well as engagement support, we produced an assessment of the wind resource in the area by scale of turbine – click here to see the display boards that the groups used at an engagement event.
North Somerset Resource Assessment (2014)
Regen produced a technical resource assessment for North Somerset Council, mapping areas with potential for wind and large scale solar PV arrays. The report also identified potential actions for the council to consider that would support development of renewable and low carbon energy technologies in North Somerset
Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Renewable Energy Strategy to 2020 (2013)
Regen undertook a multiple stage process to develop a strategy for the area including an assessment of the renewable energy resources, development of renewable energy targets and consultation events. The strategy was quoted as having significant weight in the Planning Inspector’s report on the Alaska wind farm.
