The UK has set out clear ambitions for a net zero energy system, including the need for a fourfold increase in renewable energy generation capacity, a major role for electricity storage to provide flexibility, the installation of 600,000 heat pumps a year by 2028 and the complete phase-out of fossil fuel vehicles to be replaced by EVs. The networks have a key role to play in ensuring that this new generation and low carbon technology can connect to the grid quickly and easily, and at the capacity and volume needed to meet net zero.
In response to this challenge, and members’ concerns around grid connections, Regen has set up a working group for members to discuss issues impacting access to the electricity grid.
At the last meeting, we heard from the DNOs on their plans around connections, followed by a members-only discussion to pin down the key issues that need to be addressed.
