In November 2021, The Crown Estate published its plans for floating offshore wind leasing in the Celtic Sea, outlining its ambition to develop 4 GW of floating wind by 2035. Since the announcement, countless developers have announced plans for the development of future projects which if realised will deliver not only renewable electricity, but jobs and supply chain opportunities to coastal communities.
As with all aspects of the transition to net zero, we know that realising the potential of floating wind in the region needs to reflect the needs and interests of the diverse society globally. As it stands, the floating wind industry is still distinctly lacking the diverse range of talent needed to ensure its success.
This session will discuss what an ambitious and joined up approach might look like for the Celtic Sea and will explore what we can do to attract a more diverse workforce, focusing particularly on increasing the gender balance in the floating offshore wind sector.
