The UK government will shortly set out its Clean Power 2030 plans, outlining how it aims to decarbonise the power system by the end of the decade. Alongside this, the GB Energy founding statement includes ambitions to deliver 8 GW of local and community-owned energy, including shared ownership arrangements.
Shared ownership refers to partnerships between communities, local stakeholders and developers on new renewable energy developments. This provides an opportunity for communities and local places to take a stake in clean power projects, delivering new social and economic value and supporting more positive engagement in the energy transition.
In this webinar, we presented key messages from our latest thought leadership paper, Sharing Power: Exploring shared ownership for a fast and fair net zero transition. We unpacked the role of shared ownership in delivering Clean Power 2030, including the role of GB Energy, and how this can be done in a fair and just way.
We were then joined by three experts in this space for a chaired panel discussion on the paper and how to unlock shared ownership going forward.
