Raising the ambition of international climate action with Nigel Topping, UK High Level Climate Action Champion
As we focus on how to come out of the coronavirus crisis and support the most vulnerable in our society, thinking is also turning to the importance of a low carbon economic recovery. In each interview I will explore with a key element of a zero carbon energy transition: whether it’s the challenges of operating a zero carbon energy system; mobilising the trillions of dollars of investment needed; or how we can ensure the rescheduled COP 26 drives more ambitious action on the ground.
This second interview looked at raising the ambition of international climate action with Nigel Topping, UK High Level Climate Action Champion.
Nigel Topping is the UK Government’s High Level Climate Action Champion, appointed ahead of UN climate talks, COP26. As part of the role, Nigel Topping will help drive action from businesses, investors, organisations, cities, and regions on climate change and coordinate this work with governments and parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Nigel Topping was most recently CEO of We Mean Business, a coalition of businesses working to accelerate the transition to a zero carbon economy. Prior to that he was Executive Director of the Carbon Disclosure Project. He has 18 years expertise in the private sector, having worked across the world in emerging market
