How can local authorities plan for an economic recovery that harnesses opportunities for the local energy sector and supports decarbonisation? As we look to 2021 and beyond, sustainable economic recovery is at the forefront of the national and local political agenda. Local authorities will need to collaborate with partners, including the energy networks, to deliver jobs and investment in their areas.
This forum will kick off with a discussion on the current national policy focus, following the government’s announcement of the Energy White Paper and the ‘Ten Point Plan’. What’s clear from the long-awaited energy whitepaper is that together, we have a pivotal role delivering a clean energy future and related growth for our northern communities.
We will then focus in on local investment projects, hearing from those involved on how they are collaborating with partners to make the most of both the economic and environmental opportunities. Finally, we will examine the role of the energy networks in supporting and enabling local action. The network operators will set out the support they currently offer to local authorities and listen to your detailed feedback on what more they could do. The network operators are keen to engage with local authorities and local enterprise partnerships to understand your plans for strategic investment and any associated impacts on network demand or usage.
