With NESO’s Clean Power 2030 report advising a significant increase from 14 GW to 27 GW, onshore wind is once again in the spotlight as the cheapest and most efficient renewable energy technology. Recent policy reforms in planning and the establishment of the Onshore Wind Industry Taskforce have led to new opportunities for a resurgence in onshore wind in England.
However, developers face several age-old challenges, especially related to grid and planning. This webinar will explore what’s needed for onshore wind to thrive in England, focusing on how larger, more efficient turbines create new opportunities but also raise barriers for new projects and repowering existing sites. We’ll also discuss the importance of meaningful community engagement, shared ownership, and community benefits as key factors for successful projects.
Join us to understand the opportunities and challenges in revitalising onshore wind in England and how this critical technology can accelerate our UK’s transition to net zero.
Speakers include:
- Joe Penrose, head of onshore wind, renewable electricity, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
- Eleri Davies, head of onshore development: Wales & England, RWE
- Rachel Hayes, associate director, Regen
- Rebecca Windemer, planning and communities lead, Regen
- Ian Shaw, SEND operations and engineering manager, Keele University
- Harriet Murray-Jones, real estate lawyer, Bevan Brittan
- Paul Evans, service area director, Wardell Armstrong
This event is run in partnership with Bevan Brittan and Wardell Armstrong.
