Responding to the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee’s report on the ‘Decarbonisation of the power sector’ published today [Fri 28 Apr], Merlin Hyman, CEO at Regen, commented:
“The message of today’s report is loud and clear: policy uncertainty and the absence of a clear delivery plan is putting the 2035 net zero power target at serious risk.
The report sets out critical areas where the government must take action as part of a comprehensive roadmap to put the UK back on track for net zero power. Key recommendations include addressing 15-year-long grid connection delays, ensuring the upcoming Contracts for Difference auction reflects pressures facing the renewable industry [1], and putting net zero at the heart of Ofgem’s statutory remit.
Regen was pleased to contribute to the inquiry and we urge the government to action the Committee’s recommendations.”
