A just energy transition

Communities and people must be at the heart of the transition if we are to deliver net zero at the scale and pace required. We envision a thriving and diverse clean energy sector that creates economic opportunities, gives communities a stake and delivers affordable energy for all.

To achieve this, we are addressing several critical barriers currently slowing down a just energy transition:

  1. ‍Lack of support for vulnerable consumers Current markets do not adequately support low-income, fuel-poor and vulnerable consumers.

  2. Inclusive engagement Less-represented groups are often not included in energy conversations, preventing inclusive decision making and hindering public support.
  3. Representative energy planning Processes do not consistently account for socioeconomic or distributional impacts and may exacerbate existing imbalances.
  4. Workforce transition For the social and economic benefits of the transition to be felt across all of society, the energy sector needs to be vibrant and diverse, with future green jobs secured for those in high-carbon sectors.

By tackling these challenges, we aim to ensure a fair transition that benefits all members of society while building a strong and inclusive energy sector.
