Bath and West Community Energy’s (BWCE) vision is to create a financially sustainable, community-owned energy enterprise. They aim to deliver renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy supply services via a strong community model that will maximise local investment, strengthen the local economy and build community resilience. BWCE want to see communities in Bath and surrounding area actively engaged with and influencing how we generate, supply and use energy. Through local ownership and control, renewable energy projects will feed profits back into meeting local needs.

Bretherton Energy Partnership (BEP) and GA Pet Food Partners (GA) are exploring the potential for local residents and GA to join together and begin a mutual net zero journey to change the way we heat and power our homes and businesses, transitioning from our current reliance on expensive and centralised fossil fuels to the use of locally generated renewable electricity.

BEP propose the installation of an onshore wind turbine, solar array and battery storage, which would be linked to both sites in order to decarbonise the residents and business’ electricity usage. Residents would sign up to a Local Energy club in order to receive the renewable energy.

Bristol Energy Cooperative (BEC) is a community-owned energy cooperative, growing Greater Bristol’s local green energy supply and making the benefits available to all. Cragside Energy Limited is a specialist renewable energy and energy storage development platform.

Devon County Council is responsible for the non-metropolitan area of Devon County. The Energy Policy Strategy commits the authority to reduce its energy consumption from buildings, lighting and transport by 2% per year to achieve a 30% reduction from 2012 levels by 2030, whilst providing 30% of remaining energy consumption from renewable sources. The total package will reduce carbon emissions by about 50%. The council supports community energy groups by providing online tools and support programmes. They supported community energy groups through the EU joint-funded SEACS project from 2011 to 2014 to raise awareness, build capacity and establish legal entities.

Dorset Community Energy was formed in 2013 and has now installed ten community owned photovoltaic installations: across community buildings and schools in Dorset.  They have been working in the Bridport and Dorchester areas to help communities and businesses adapt to the local effects of climate change and reduce their impact on the environment. Dorset Community Energy is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society which facilitates community ownership of renewable energy production. Including the four sites being installed in August 2016, total capacity will be 403kW.  These schools and community buildings will all benefit from free or reduced cost electricity.

Eco NRG Limited, founded in 2010 specialises in the design and installation of bespoke renewable energy systems in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. They have quickly emerged as one of the largest regional companies in the renewable sector, whilst gaining a reputation for delivering a quality service at a competitive cost. Econergy develops, owns and operates utility-scale renewable energy projects, driven by deep industry, regulatory and technology expertise at every critical stage from origination to supply

When we launched in 1995, we were Britain’s first green energy company and we founded the global green energy movement. Since then, we’ve grown and grown, building wind and sun parks to power homes and businesses across the country. We use our customers’ energy bills to build new sources of green energy. Eden Geothermal Ltd has been set up by three partners: Eden Project, EGS Energy Ltd, and Bestec (UK) Ltd to unlock the geothermal energy deep in the granite beneath Cornwall. Eden Geothermal has secured funding of £9.9m from the European Regional Development Fund, alongside £1.4m from Cornwall Council and £5.5m from institutional investors to drill a 4.5km deep well at the Eden Project, and heat its famous Biomes, greenhouses and offices.
This is the first phase of a two well development. It will pave the way for the second phase: another 4.5km well and an electricity plant.

EDEN Sustainable Limited is a company offering free domestic biomass boilers and other finance options for solar and commercial biomass. Through both domestic and commercial agreements, EDEN fund and install solar PV or biomass boilers on sites owned by their clients. The land or rooftop owners can then benefit from cheap electricity and rent revenues whilst EDEN export energy onto the grid. Storelectric Ltd is a developer of projects using highly efficient forms of Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) using existing technologies, at a grid scale, efficiently and cost-effectively.

Both Storelectric’s CAES systems offer the ability not only to generate electricity but also store it when there is excess, to respond to intermittency issues and to provide ancillary services to the grid. West Solent Solent Cooperative is the brainchild of Anthony Woolhouse and reflects his Quaker concern that community owned and managed renewable energy production is the right response to the problems of climate change.

The Co-operative was formally created on the 16th August 2013 by Anthony Woolhouse, Cathy Cook and Jonathan Blease who work together in the New Forest Transition Group. The board has been strengthened by the addition of three more local people: Patrick Andrews, Kate Chapman and Rob Dewing. Patrick and Kate are also active in the New Forest Transition Group while Rob Dewing and Anthony Woolhouse worked together on the panel of the New Forest National Park Authority Sustainability Fund.
